As we approach the end of April, fantasy baseball managers, including myself are starting to feel the pressure. Early slumps can create panic, but history shows that dropping struggling stars too soon can be a season-altering mistake. Let’s talk about three key players who are off to slow starts but are worth holding onto:
Luis Robert Jr. (OF, White Sox)
Luis Robert Jr. has been battling inconsistency at the plate, with a worrying increase in strikeouts and weak contact rates. However, he’s too talented to ignore. His speed and power combination remains elite, and rumors of a possible team change could reignite his fantasy value. Robert has shown in past seasons that once he locks in, he can be a fantasy game-changer.
Christian Walker (1B, Astros)
Walker’s numbers have dipped as he adjusts to pitchers’ new approaches against him. Despite a slight slump, metrics like barrel rate and hard-hit percentage still rank among the league’s best. Once he adapts you should expect the home runs and RBI totals to pick back up quickly.
Willson Contreras (C, Cardinals)
Contreras is seeing a few too many strikeouts, but the quality of his contact remains strong. Given the scarcity of high-end catchers, dropping Contreras would be a critical error.
Fantasy baseball is a long season. Experienced managers know that April stats don’t always predict end of season outcomes. Bench these players if you must but don’t drop them.
